The forest offers a variety of hiding places from which predators ambush prey. The spotted coats of the jungle cats blend perfectly with the shifting light in the forest. Lying partially submerged in the dark river, looking like a log, the gavial waits for an unsuspecting, thirsty peccary. A snake curled up on the forest floor is partly hidden in the fallen leaves and twigs so that a passing rodent doesn't detect its killer until too late. The backdrop of forest colors offers concealment to predators because they too, can be prey for other animals.
